AWS Region Latency Checker

Test your network latency to all AWS regions and find the fastest one for your location. This tool pings S3 endpoints in each region to measure real-world latency.

AWS Region Latency Test
$ aws-latency-check --all-regions

How It Works

This tool measures your network latency to AWS S3 endpoints in 16 different regions worldwide. For each region, it performs 3 ping tests and uses the median value to avoid outliers.

Understanding the Results

  • ✓ EXCELLENT (< 50ms): Ideal for real-time applications, gaming, and low-latency services
  • ✓ GOOD (50-100ms): Great for most web applications and APIs
  • ○ FAIR (100-200ms): Acceptable for standard web services
  • ✗ HIGH (> 200ms): May cause noticeable delays in interactive applications

Choosing the Right Region

While latency is important, it's not the only factor to consider when choosing an AWS region:

  • Compliance: GDPR, data residency requirements, etc.
  • Service Availability: Not all AWS services are available in all regions
  • Pricing: Costs can vary 10-20% between regions
  • User Location: Choose regions close to your primary user base

Technical Details

This tool uses the browser's fetch API to measure latency to S3 endpoints. The measurements represent the round-trip time from your browser to AWS infrastructure. Actual application performance may vary based on your specific use case.
